This preamp/amp was designed and built to specification by the legendary tube designer Staffan Tenbrock, known adept to the Swedish tube master builder, Janne Lodström.
This KT 88 build with ca 2x40+ W is more than enough power to drive any pair of speakers. The circuity is a classic Mullard coupling that is simple in its design, but capable and extremely stable. The power unit consists of a directly connected pentode (6SJ7 / 5693W), connected without coupling capacitor to a dual triode (6SN7W) which forms the driver/phase inverter for each KT88/channel via MKP capacitors. The KT 88 tubes have separate bias adjustment pots, including a custom bias meter . The KT 88s are used in a pentode configuration and the screen is fed a stable, high voltage via a separate voltage regulator. All transformers and inductors are Lundahl-components of the highest quality.
The capacitors in the power supply unit are manufactured by RIFA PEH, the resistors by Beyslag, the input selector is by ELMA and the volume pot is a Japanese construction with conductive plastic track and the input sensitivity is 250mV for max volume setting. The industrial styled casing is anodized aluminum.
The Input tubes are 2 RCA Red Base 5693W Tubes from 1945, and 2 RCA Red Bottomed 6548 (brand new originals). Also I have a multi meter and an extra set of Sylvania JAN-CHS-6SN7W (USA 1951) to sell if you want to play with tube switching in the input tube position. The effects are interesting... The Svetlana power tubes for the output are almost new and run at far from maximum capacity (less than 50%!), which means that the service life is very good, extreme in fact (2000 h at 100%, a lot longer at 50%, 3-10 times or so). Input tubes never really wear out.
