Mer info:

The Mullard EL34 XF4, produced around 1979 at the Blackburn, UK factory, is widely regarded as one of the last true, high-quality, British-made EL34s before the shift towards foreign production (often E. European) for the brand.

These tubes are characterized by their "staple plate" or "crimped plate" construction, which differs from the earlier, highly sought-after XF1 and XF2 "double-getter" or "spot-weld" plates.

Based on user experiences and audiophile reviews, here is a breakdown of the Mullard XF4 1979 EL34:

-Sound Character-

Warmth and Smoothness: Consistent with the Mullard "magic" these tubes are known for a warm, musical, and forgiving sound, often described as having a "velvet-like" smoothness.

Mids-Forward: They excel in the midrange, offering rich, complex harmonic texture, making them ideal for vocals and guitars.

Top End: The treble is generally described as smooth and not harsh, rounding out the tone.

Low End: While having good, tight bass, they are generally not considered as "boomy" or "punchy" as some modern counterparts like the SED Winged "C" or Tung-Sol EL34B.

"British" Tone: They are often cited as the definitive "Marshall" sound, providing that classic, gritty, and warm crunch associated with 1970s rock
