The Aries G1 is a high-resolution-capable network streamer. Wifi and Ethernet inputs. USB or S/PDIF (coaxial, TOSLINK, AES/EBU) outputs. In between, an overhauled Tesla hardware platform gives users a multitude of music playback options: 1) AURALiC’s in-house developed Lightning DS software system opens the door to Tidal, Qobuz, Internet radio, Spotify Connect plus music stored on a NAS device or directly-connected USB drive; 2) Roon; 3) Apple AirPlay and 5) Linn’s Songcast.

The Aries G1’s processor is identical to that found in the G2 version, effectively netting a 50% speed uptick on the original (and presumably outgoing) Aries model. System memory has been doubled to 2GB whilst the Aries G1’s library index luxuriates in 8GB of real estate. Furthermore, the memory cache that executes gapless playback and bit-perfect multi-room streaming now enjoys a palatial 1GB so that file handling support stretches its legs to DSD512 or PCM up to 32bit/384kHz as called for by the incoming data stream.

Keeping electrical noise cross-contamination as low as possible, the Aries G1 sees a pair of ‘Purer-Power’ linear power supplies independently juice the network streamer’s processing and digital (output) boards.

An anodized black aluminium chassis houses the whole shebang to see the Aries G1 appear more similar than different to the forerunning Aries G2. The former also adopts the latter’s 10cm retina display. Playback control comes from any smart device, any IR remote or the unit’s front panel buttons.
